"The place to be!"
MARCH 18, 2016

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. -Jeremiah 3:15

God has promised that He will send us pastors to watch over, to teach, and feed us the bread of life with knowledge and understanding.  A pastor's job is a divine appointment and should not be interfered with.  As we await the arrival of our new pastor, many have asked, "How can we make his arrival more comfortable and welcoming?"  The answer is very simple.  PRAY!

Pastor Bill Kasper -                                  New senior pastor at Central

Prayer is the most effective way to help anyone.  God works wonders when intercession prayer is used correctly.  We have a tendency to put a lot on our pastors.  In fact, we have a tendency of putting our pastors on a pedestal where they can be knocked off and fall.  Instead, we should be putting our pastors on a prayer list, where they can be lifted up! I know what you're thinking, "What should we pray for?"  Well here are a few things I know Pastor Bill will be happy that we prayed for.

Pray for his Personal Life

As we all know, your communion with God begins in the home.  It begins with your personal life.  I have a sort of mission statement that I live by.  "God first, Family Second, Career Third."  By putting God first in our lives, we build a strong foundation that we can build the rest of our life on (Matthew 7:24-27).  A pastor's live is no different.  We should pray that Pastor Bill's walk with God is strong (God first) an that his relationship with his family is held together by God's love (family second).  If he can not do that, then how can he be a Shepherd to God's flock?  Let us pray for his personal life.

Pray for his Administration Skills

Jesus said "Simon, son of John, do you love me...feed my lambs" (John 21:15)  Jesus commissioned us to go and make disciples of all the nations! (Matthew 28:16-20).  One thing a pastor would love to see more than anything is an active church making disciples.  We must pray for the way Pastor Bill administers our church. Everything from counseling and leadership to appointments he makes and how he delegates. Without a good leader to follow, the flock will be lost in the fields. Let us pray for his administration skills.

Pray for his Sermon Study

I hope you realize by know that how we live our personal lives affects the rest of our life and relationships.  If a pastor's personal life doesn't have God first, how can he or she possibly lead a christian organization or effectively preach the Gospel?  That is why we must first pray for a pastor's personal life to be inundated with God and His love!  Then a pastor can think about what God has done in his or her life and TESTIFY!  Can I get an AMEN? We need to pray that Pastor Bill have time to spend in God's word and have the time to properly prepare his sermons. "Go into all the world," Jesus commanded "and preach the Gospel to all Creation." (Mark 16:15) Let us pray for his sermon study.

Pray for how he handles Tests and Trials

If there is anything I have learned in my involvement in the church it is that there will be many tests and trials.  As soon as I began to be involved in the ministry and as a church leader, a tidal wave of tests and trials came crushing through my walls.  The enemy wanted to steal, kill and destroy me (John 10:10).  That is all the enemy wants to do.  It is no different for a pastor.  The enemy is going to want to steal Pastor Bill's ministry!  He's going to want to kill Pastor Bill's ministry!  He's going to want to destroy Pastor Bill's ministry.  When these trials come his way, we pray that he learns and grows from his experiences. Let us pray for these tests and trials!

Pray that he is an Overseer

"I will give you pastors according to mine heart..." says God.  If a pastor's heart is according to God's heart, there will not be a single wolf that will stand in his way.  From how he oversees our church ministries to how he cares for the flock.  If Pastor Bills heart is in the right place, look out Satan.  We must pray that his heart is with God's. Let us pray for a strong Overseer.

Pray for proper Resources

Do you ever wonder where a pastor goes to when he or she has problems?  We might say a pastor goes to God, like we all should.  But what I'm talking about is where does a pastor go when they need to talk to someone?  Is there a pastor for the pastors? According to the Texico Conference, Pastor Bill is the director of the Ministerial Department.  Meaning that he is the pastor for the pastors in the Texico Conference.  So where does Pastor Bill go?  Do you see why we should pray for this.  We must pray that Pastor Bill finds the proper strength and the proper wisdom and proper support to carry out God's mission.  Let us pray for proper resources.

Looks like we have quite a full prayer hour ahead of us.  We need to constantly pray for our pastors.  They need and appreciate our prayers more than anything else.  A praying church is a force to be reckoned with.  Let us recap what we need to pray about for Pastor Bill.  It won't be too hard to remember if we remember the acronym P.A.S.T.O.R.:
